“As Moses lifted up the serpent [the serpent made of bronze described in Numbers 21:8–9] in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that whosoever believes in Him will have eternal life, for God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten [uniquely born] Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
“…for by grace you are saved through faith and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not as a result of works, lest any man should boast.”
Above is the content of John 3:14–16 and the content of Ephesians 2:8–9, respectively. Itʼs worthwhile to refrain from receiving the mark referenced in Revelation 13:11–18 and to instead receive eternal life for free by believing that Jesus is the Savior. Before doing any Bible studying and before praying to God the Father, it is useful for a person who has believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as the Savior to try to think of any sins that one might have committed since one last confessed oneʼs known post-salvation sins to God the Father, and if one has indeed committed any, to then silently confess those sins to God the Father—confessing only one time for each sin—in accordance with what is mentioned in 1 John 1:9:
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
This webpage could be periodically updated. If there is a mass disappearance of people professing to be Christians, and if the original author of this webpage is amongst those people disappearing en masse, then it is possible that this webpage will no longer be updated. Also, if there is a mass disappearance of people professing to be Christians, it is worthwhile to consider the possibility that those people have exited from the earth on the occasion known as the Rapture instead of assuming that that mass disappearance involves extraterrestrials abducting those people or involves the annihilation of those people or involves anything else other than the Rapture.

When studying the Word of God, it is beneficial to keep in mind the content of Hebrews 4:12:
“Indeed, the Word of God is alive and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of the soul and the spirit and of the joints and the marrow and is a critic of thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Note: The heart refers to the mind.
It is also beneficial to keep in mind the content of 2 Timothy 3:16–17 when studying the Word of God:
“All Scripture is God breathed and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God might be mature, having been thoroughly furnished unto all good work.”
It is the responsibility of a pastor-teacher to endeavor to correctly understand the Word of God and then to accurately teach the Word of God, as per the content of 2 Timothy 2:15:
“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the Word of Truth.”
A pastor-teacher is a communicator rather than a crutch on which to be leaned. In that regard, a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ should refrain from putting oneʼs trust in and thereby serving as a devoted follower of and thus worshiping a pastor-teacher. Likewise, a believer should refrain from putting oneʼs trust in and thereby serving as a devoted follower of and thus worshiping anyone other than the Trinity [God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit], as per Joshua 24:15, the content of which references Joshua speaking to the Israelites:
If it is disagreeable/bad/evil/wrong/wretchedness/displeasing in your sight to serve/worship Jehovah / Yahweh / I am I am / the existing One, choose for yourselves today whom you serve/worship: whether the gods ['elohiym / false gods] which your fathers have served/worshiped which were beyond the river or the gods ['elohiym / false gods] of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my house, we serve/worship Jehovah / Yahweh / I am I am / the existing One.
Note: Joshua, the leader of the Israelites after Joshua had been serving as the assistant of Moses while Moses was the leader of the Israelites, set the example for the Israelites. Joshua chose to put his trust in and thereby serve as a devoted follower of and thus worship God the Father rather than Joshua choosing to put his trust in and thereby serve as a devoted follower of and thus worship the lesser of multiple evils amongst multiple choices of 'elohiym [el-oh-HEEM]. The word 'elohiym with a lowercase e can refer to false gods, to angels, or to human rulers or judges. The word 'Elohiym with a capital E refers to the Trinity. The word 'elohiym can also be used to refer to might as in mightiness. In that regard, the use of the word 'elohiym in reference to false gods, to angels, or to human rulers or judges involves the connotation of mightiness in comparison to an average human. When a person puts oneʼs trust in and thereby serves as a devoted follower of and thus worships an angel or human, that angel or human is that personʼs false god. Regarding the foregoing, the content of Joshua 24:15 involves Joshua calling attention to the choices that the Israelites had, and that content involves Joshua permitting the Israelites to make their choices while Joshua led by example with his choice.
The gift of pastor-teacher is for the purpose of each pastor-teacher functioning as a messenger who communicates the Word of God rather than functioning as a priest between the Trinity and mankind. In that regard, the time period that can be referred to as the Church Age started fifty days after the Lord Jesus Christ was resurrected, and all Church Age believers in the Lord Jesus Christ are priests. The Lord Jesus Christ is the High Priest of Church Age believers, and believers should be willing to acknowledge/confess/profess to people the believersʼ faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, as per Hebrews 4:14–15:
Therefore, since we have a great High Priest Who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast the acknowledgment/confession/profession. Indeed, we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One Who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.
Also, the Lord Jesus Christ is the High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek [mel-KIZ-uh-dek], who was the ruler of Salem when Abraham was still named Abram. Melchizedek was both a king and a priest, as per Genesis 14:18, which references Melchizedek greeting Abram:
Then Melchizedek king of Salem has brought out bread and wine, and he is a priest of 'El [AYL] 'Elyown [el-YOHN] / God [focusing on God the Fatherʼs power] Most High.
The Lord Jesus Christ is also both a king and a priest because the Lord is the Priest according to the order of Melchizedek, as per Hebrews 7:14–17:
Indeed, it is evident that our Lord has arisen from Judah, a tribe with reference to which Moses spoke nothing concerning priests. Also, it is still much more evident: that according to the similarity of Melchizedek, Another of a different type of priest arises, Who has become such not on the basis of a law of fleshly command / physical requirement but according to the power of an indestructible life. Indeed, it is attested: “YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER, ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK.”
Note: The Lord Jesus Christ is from the tribe of Judah. Also, the Lord Jesus Christ is qualified to be a priest because He was resurrected and therefore has an indestructible body. The above content in all capital letters is a reference to Psalm 110:4.
Because a king is royalty, a king who is a priest is a royal priest. In that regard, Church Age believers are royalty because they are members of the Lord Jesus Christʼs family. Therefore, all Church Age believers are royal priests, as per 1 Peter 2:9–10:
However, you are A CHOSEN PEOPLE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR ACQUISITION/PRESERVATION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him Who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light, for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are GODʼS PEOPLE. You had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY.
Note: Before the Church Age, Gentiles were not Godʼs people. In the Church Age, both Jewish and Gentile believers are Godʼs people. The content of 1 Peter 2:10 references Hosea 2:23. In that regard, Peter uses references involving Israel in the Old Testament to refer to Church Age believers.
Itʼs the message rather than the messenger that should be the focus of the believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. Put succinctly: itʼs the message rather than the messenger. In that regard, it is beneficial to keep in mind the content of Revelation 22:8–9, which was written by the apostle John, who, in addition to writing The Revelation to John, wrote The Gospel According to John, The First Epistle of John, The Second Epistle of John, and The Third Epistle of John:
I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things, and when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed me these things, but he says* to me, “Do not do that. I am a fellow servant of yours and of your brethren the prophets and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.”
*Note: The word says is in the Greek historical present tense. By means of the Greek historical present tense, past action or future action can be described from the perspective of someone seeing the action as it occurs.
Regarding messages, believers should use the Word of God to examine what is being communicated. That is what the Bereans who are mentioned in Acts 17:10–12 did:
The brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, who, when they arrived, went into the synagogue of the Jews. Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, who received the word with all eagerness / readiness of mind, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. Therefore, many of them believed, and not a few prominent Greek women and men.
Note: The phrase not a few means “quite a few.”
Today, the return of the Lord Jesus Christ to meet believers in the Lord Jesus Christ in the clouds on the occasion of the Rapture is one day closer than it was yesterday. The Rapture involves both deceased and living believers in the Lord Jesus Christ meeting the Lord in the clouds in the atmosphere of the earth, receiving glorified immortal resurrection bodies similar to the Lord Jesus Christʼs glorified resurrection body, and going to Heaven with those resurrection bodies. Before the Rapture occurs, deceased believers in the Lord Jesus Christ are in Heaven without glorified bodies. It is possible that the Rapture will occur during the time when the Feast of Trumpets / Yom Teruah [yahm tuh-ROO-uh or yohm tuh-ROO-uh] would occur. The Feast of Trumpets was one of the seven feasts that the Israelites were supposed to celebrate each year under the regulations of the Mosaic Law. The term Mosaic Law refers to the laws communicated by Moses to the ancient Israelites. Because Moses communicated those laws, they are known collectively as the Mosaic Law. The Lord Jesus Christ fulfilled the Mosaic Law by being judged on the cross for the sins of humanity. Now that the Lord Jesus Christ has fulfilled the Mosaic Law, no believers in the Lord Jesus Christ are under the regulations of the Mosaic Law.
While it is possible that the Rapture will occur during the time when the Feast of Trumpets / Yom Teruah [yahm tuh-ROO-uh or yohm tuh-ROO-uh] would occur—which is referenced as a single day in Leviticus 23:24–25 and Numbers 29:1–6 and which is what some people call Rosh Hashanah and which some people celebrate for two days—the next occurrence of which will possibly be during the time period of October 10th, 2026, at 11:13 A.M. – October 14th, 2026, at 12:29 P.M. in the Eastern Daylight Time zone, it is worthwhile for believers in the Lord Jesus Christ to get into the habit of being prepared every day for the return of the Lord, just in case the Rapture will occur during a time other than the time of the Feast of Trumpets / Yom Teruah / Rosh Hashanah. Furthermore, it is worthwhile to be in the habit of being prepared for the Rapture so that if it does occur during the time of the Feast of Trumpets / Yom Teruah / Rosh Hashanah, one can be prepared for that time because of already being in the habit of being prepared. Examples of being prepared for the Rapture include applying the content of 1 John 1:9 whenever one sins, being unselfish, and whenever circumstances are such that an opportunity arises, sharing the gospel—the good news that believing that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Savior Who was judged on the cross for the sins of humanity is the means by which a person is able to have eternal life. Regarding sharing the gospel, one could also have a written or printed message containing the gospel with that written or printed message located somewhere where it could be easily noticed so that if a person or people were to read or hear that written or printed message either before or after the Rapture occurs, that person or people would thereby read or hear the gospel by means of that written or printed message.
Whether the Feast of Trumpets / Yom Teruah / Rosh Hashanah in 2026 would occur during October depends on whether barley crop in Israel in 2026 was first in a status known as abib [ah-BEEB] (also known as aviv [ah-VEEV]) in April. Also, if barley crop in Israel in 2026 was first in a status known as abib/aviv in February, then the Feast of Trumpets / Yom Teruah / Rosh Hashanah would have occurred during the time period of August 12th, 2026, at 12:25 P.M. – August 16th, 2026, at 1:49 P.M. in the Eastern Daylight Time zone, and if barley crop in Israel in 2026 was first in a status known as abib/aviv in March, then the Feast of Trumpets / Yom Teruah / Rosh Hashanah would have occurred during the time period of September 10th, 2026, at 11:51 A.M. – September 14th, 2026, at 1:08 P.M. in the Eastern Daylight Time zone. On which day and at what time in August, September, or October the Feast of Trumpets / Yom Teruah / Rosh Hashanah would start depends on the time of the last sunset over Jerusalem before the first sliver of a crescent new moon after that sunset. The crescent new moon is the illumination of a sliver of the waxing moon. The moon is waxing when it is becoming more and more illuminated after what some people refer to as the astronomical new moon, the time when there is an absence of illumination of the moon—in other words, when there is an absence of reflection of light from the moon. On which day and at what time in August, September, or October the Feast of Trumpets / Yom Teruah / Rosh Hashanah would end depends on whether the Feast of Trumpets / Yom Teruah / Rosh Hashanah lasts one day or two days and whether the time of day of the end of the Feast of Trumpets / Yom Teruah / Rosh Hashanah is at sunset, at the end of civil twilight, at the end of nautical twilight, or at the end of astronomical twilight.
Regarding information about the Rapture, it is beneficial to keep in mind the content of 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18 and 1 Corinthians 15:51–52:
1 Thessalonians 4:13–18
Now we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope, for if we believe that Jesus died and rose again—and we do indeed believe that Jesus died and rose again—so also God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep through Jesus. Indeed, this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive who remain until the coming of the Lord will not precede those who have fallen asleep, for the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout of command, with a voice of an archangel and with a trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive who remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore, comfort one another with these words.
1 Corinthians 15:51–52
Behold, I tell you a mystery: we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in a twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet, for a trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed.
After the Rapture will be the seven-year Tribulation. The believers who will be alive on the earth when the Rapture occurs will escape the Tribulation. 1 Thessalonians 5:1–11 covers that topic. In that regard, in the book 1 Thessalonians, the content of 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18 is immediately followed by the content of 1 Thessalonians 5:1–11.
1 Thessalonians 5:1–11
Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you, for you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord is coming just like a thief in the night. While they are saying, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. However, you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief, for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness; therefore, let us not sleep as others, but let us be alert and sober. Indeed, those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get drunk at night. However, since we are of day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and benevolence/goodwill, and as a helmet, the hope / absolute confidence of deliverance, for God has not destined us for wrath but for obtaining deliverance through our Lord Jesus Christ, Who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him. Therefore, comfort one another and edify one another, just as you also are doing.
Note: In this context, the day of the Lord is the time period that consists of the Rapture, the seven years of the Tribulation, and the Second Advent. In that regard, deliverance from the Tribulation is the deliverance in this context. Also, unspecified is who will be saying “Peace and safety!” In this context, sleeping refers to a lack of alertness. The alertness in this context involves being ready for the Rapture. In order to be ready for the Rapture, a believer needs to be filled with the power of God the Holy Spirit and to pay attention for historical trends such as people saying “Peace and safety!” and for historical trends that match the pattern of the world being on the brink of tremendous calamities like those that will occur during the Tribulation. Regarding being filled with the power of God the Holy Spirit, once a believer commits a sin after salvation, that believer is no longer filled with the power of God the Holy Spirit and is out of fellowship with the Trinity. After that believer has confessed/acknowledged to God the Father all of that believerʼs known unconfessed post-salvation sins, fellowship with the Trinity and the filling with the power of the Holy Spirit are restored. The procedure for confessing/acknowledging to God the Father all of oneʼs known unconfessed post-salvation sins is mentioned in 1 John 1:9: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Fellowship with God the Father and God the Son is mentioned in 1 John 1. Being out of fellowship with God the Holy Spirit is referenced in Ephesians 4:30. In that regard, when a believer sins, that believer grieves the Holy Spirit. Losing the filling of the power of God the Holy Spirit is referenced in 1 Thessalonians 5:19. In that regard, when a believer sins, the power of God the Holy Spirit is quenched in that believer. After a believer has confessed/acknowledged to God the Father all of that believerʼs known unconfessed post-salvation sins, that believer is then filled with the power of God the Holy Spirit again and in fellowship with the Trinity again.
The verses of the day for September 24th are Hebrews 10:35–36. The title of the book Hebrews is also known as “The Epistle to the Hebrews” and “The Letter to the Hebrews.” The author of Hebrews is unspecified in the Bible. Because it is useful to study verses that share the same context, below is content related to Hebrews 10.
Hebrews 10:1
Indeed, the Law, since it has only a shadow of the good things to come and not the very form [literally: very image] of things, can [two early manuscripts read they can] never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw near.
Note: The content of Hebrews 10:1 refers to the Mosaic Law. The term Mosaic Law refers to the laws communicated by Moses to the ancient Israelites. Because Moses communicated those laws, they are known collectively as the Mosaic Law. Also, in this verse, the pronouns they and those refer to the Levitical priests. Under the Mosaic Law, the Levitical priests were responsible for conducting rituals, including various sacrifices, some of which involved the sacrificing of certain animals. Now that the Lord Jesus Christ has been judged for the sins of humanity, the Mosaic Law has been fulfilled; therefore, people should refrain from sacrificing animals because such sacrifices have been invalidated by the Lord Jesus Christʼs fulfilling of the Mosaic Law when He received the judgment for the sins of humanity.
The sacrifices conducted by the Levitical priests were unable to make people perfect; therefore, those sacrifices were unable to provide eternal life. In that regard, the sacrifices served as teaching illustrations that revealed that the Savior would be judged for the sins of humanity. Before the First Advent of the Lord, there were many teaching illustrations that revealed that the Savior would be judged for the sins of humanity. The teaching illustrations can be found in the Old Testament. In that regard, narratives in the Old Testament taught that the Savior would be judged for the sins of humanity. Also, regulations and rituals specified in the Mosaic Law part of the Old Testament taught that the Savior would be judged for the sins of humanity.
While specific details about the Lord were absent from the Old Testament narratives and the regulations and rituals specified in the Mosaic Law part of the Old Testament, there were bits and pieces of information that provided hints about Him. Those hints are like a shadow that precedes someone approaching—such as from around a corner, for example—that provides some information about the approaching person without providing full details about that person. That is shadow Christology.
Regarding the information that the Old Testament narratives and the regulations and rituals specified in the Mosaic Law part of the Old Testament provided, there was enough information for people to realize that they are unable to provide eternal life for themselves and that the means by which to receive eternal life is by means of faith that God the Son would take the form of the sinless Man Who would be judged for the sins of humanity. That is shadow Christology. After the Lord Jesus Christ was judged on the cross for the sins of humanity, a person receives eternal life by means of faith that God the Son took the form of the sinless Man Jesus Christ Who was judged for the sins of humanity. That is historical Christology.
Rather than providing the means of eternal life, the Mosaic Law functioned as a custodian that warned that people are unable to provide eternal life for themselves through their works. The Mosaic Law functioned as that custodian until the Lord Jesus Christ was judged on the cross for the sins of humanity. Once He was judged on the cross for the sins of humanity, the meaning of the shadow Christology found in the Old Testament was revealed.
Hebrews 10:2
Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered because the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have had consciousness of sins?
Hebrews 10:3
However, in those sacrifices there is [literally: them there is] a reminder of sins year by year.
Hebrews 10:4
Indeed, it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
Note: When animals were sacrificed, there was blood involved, and that blood is a teaching illustration that metaphorically represents the Lord Jesus Christ being judged for the sins of humanity. Because the blood of those animals is merely a teaching illustration, it is impossible for the blood of those animals to take away sins. Also, now that Jesus has been judged on the cross for the sins of humanity, the Mosaic Law has been fulfilled, and the requirement of sacrificing animals has ended.
Hebrews 10:5
Therefore, when He comes into the world, He says, “SACRIFICE AND OFFERING YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED, BUT A BODY YOU HAVE PREPARED FOR ME.
Note: The Lord Jesus Christ is the He coming into the world and also the He speaking. Regarding the quotations in uppercase letters, the content of Hebrews 10:5–7 contains references to Psalm 40:6–8.
Hebrews 10:6
IN WHOLE BURNT OFFERINGS AND sacrifices FOR SIN YOU HAVE TAKEN NO PLEASURE.
Hebrews 10:7
“THEN I SAID, ‘BEHOLD, I HAVE COME (IN THE SCROLL OF THE BOOK IT IS WRITTEN OF ME) TO DO YOUR WILL, O GOD.’”
Note: The phrase THE SCROLL OF THE BOOK refers to the part of the Old Testament that was available to King David when he wrote Psalm 40.
Hebrews 10:8
After saying above, “SACRIFICES AND OFFERINGS AND WHOLE BURNT OFFERINGS AND sacrifices FOR SIN YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED, NOR HAVE YOU TAKEN PLEASURE in them” (which are offered according to the Law),
Note: Hebrews 10:8 references Hebrews 10:5–7 and Psalm 40:6–8.
Hebrews 10:9
then He said [literally: has said], “BEHOLD, I HAVE COME TO DO YOUR WILL.” He takes away the first in order to establish the second.
Note: In this verse, the word first refers to the sacrifices and offerings, and the word second refers to doing the will of God the Father. In that regard, the sacrifices taught about the Lord Jesus Christ being judged for the sins of humanity. Once the Lord was judged for the sins of humanity, the requirement that people do those sacrifices and offerings ended.
Hebrews 10:10
By this [literally: By which] will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
Note: Hebrews 10:10 refers to the Lord Jesus Christ being judged on the cross for the sins of humanity. Also, the phrase have been sanctified refers to positional sanctification. The term positional sanctification refers to God the Holy Spirit baptizing every Church Age believer in the Lord Jesus Christ into Jesus Christ, which means placing that Church Age believer into union with the Person of Jesus Christ. In other words, God the Holy Spirit makes the believer associated with the Lord. God the Holy Spirit does the baptizing of a believer at the moment of salvation of that believer. This association with the Lord Jesus Christ is a guarantee of eternal security, which means that the salvation of a believer can never be lost.
With regard to the Church Age, below is a synopsis of human history as categorized into time periods known as dispensations. In the below synopsis, there is the term hypostatic union [high-PUH-stat-ick YOON-yuhn]. This refers to the Lord Jesus Christ being 100% Deity and 100% humanity. The English word hypostatic is derived from the Koine [KOI-nay] Greek word ὑπόστασις [pronounced hoo-PAH-stah-sees and transliterated as hypostasis]. After the Lord Jesus Christ was judged for the sins of humanity, His body was in the grave for three days and three nights. He was then resurrected, and He was on the earth for forty days after He was resurrected. He then ascended to Heaven, and ten days after that, the Day of Pentecost [PEN-tih-kahst] occurred. The Day of Pentecost was the beginning of the Church Age. The word Pentecost is derived from the Koine Greek word πεντηκοστή [pronounced pen-tay-kah-STAY and transliterated as pentēkostē]. That word is derived from the Koine Greek word πεντήκοντα [pronounced pen-TAY-kahn-tah and transliterated as pentēkonta], which means “fifty.” Therefore, the word Pentecost is derived from the fact that that day occurred fifty days after the Lord was resurrected. In that regard, the Church Age began fifty days after the Lord was resurrected. The Church Age will end with the Rapture. Absent from the Bible is anything specifically indicating the precise date and time when the Rapture will occur, although it is possible that the Rapture will occur during the time when the Feast of Trumpets / Yom Teruah [yahm tuh-ROO-uh or yohm tuh-ROO-uh] would occur—which is referenced as a single day in Leviticus 23:24–25 and Numbers 29:1–6 and which is what some people call Rosh Hashanah and which some people celebrate for two days—the next occurrence of which will possibly be during the time period of October 10th, 2026, at 11:13 A.M. – October 14th, 2026, at 12:29 P.M. in the Eastern Daylight Time zone.

Regarding the word judgment, the proper way to spell that word is without an e between the dg and the m. In that regard, the e of the root word judge is dropped when the suffix ment is added to that root word. The formation of the word judgment is shown below.
judge −e +ment
= judg +ment
= judgment
Another way to categorize human history is by means of civilizations. Civilizations begin only with believers. Regarding the timing of civilizations and dispensations, the first civilization began with Adam and ended on the occasion of the Great Flood (also known as the Flood). That civilization is known as the antediluvian civilization and the predulivian civilization. In that regard, the prefixes ante and pre mean “before.” Also, there are various spellings of the adjectives that refer to the time before the Flood. Those spellings include antediluvian, ante-diluvian, prediluvian, and pre-diluvian.
After the Flood, there were only eight believers on the earth: Noah, his wife, their three sons, and their sonsʼ wives. With the removal of the unbelievers from the earth on the occasion of the Flood, a new civilization was started. That civilization is known as the postdiluvian civilization (also known as the postdiluvial civilization). Regarding the terminology, the prefix post means “after,” and the adjectives diluvian and diluvial mean “having to do with a flood.” Also, there are various spellings of the adjectives that refer to the time after the Flood. Those spellings include postdiluvian, post-diluvian, postdiluvial, and post-diluvial. The postdiluvian civilization will end on the occasion of the Second Advent of the Lord Jesus Christ. On the occasion of the Second Advent, the Lord will remove all unbelievers from the earth. Their removal will be by means of physical death just as the removal of all unbelievers was by means of physical death on the occasion of the Flood. This is called the Baptism of Fire, which is either a metaphorical description because fire can be used to represent judgment or a literal reference to the use of fire in the judgment of unbelievers on the occasion of the Second Advent. The Baptism of Fire is referenced in Matthew 3:11–12; Luke 3:15–17; and 2 Thessalonians 1:7–9.
Just as a new civilization started after the Flood, so also a new civilization will start after the Baptism of Fire. That civilization is called the Millennium. The Millennium is both a civilization and a dispensation. The Eternal State is also both a civilization and a dispensation.
The content of Hebrews 10:10 is repeated below for reference.
Hebrews 10:10
By this [literally: By which] will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
Hebrews 10:11
Every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins,
Note: The priests referenced in Hebrews 10:11 are the Levitical priests of Israel during the time that the Mosaic Law was in effect.
Hebrews 10:12
but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, SAT DOWN [or sins, forever SAT DOWN] AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD,
Note: The content of this verse references Psalm 110:1. David is the author of Psalm 110. Also, the reference to a hand in Hebrews 10:12 is an anthropomorphism [an-thruh-puh-MOR-fiz-uhm]. An anthropomorphism is a usage of terminology involving a physical characteristic to describe a characteristic of the Trinity. The right-hand side of a ruler is a place of honor. The Lord Jesus Christ sitting down at the right hand of God the Father is referred to as the session of the Lord Jesus Christ. Regarding that usage of the English noun session, the English noun session is derived from the Latin noun sessiō [SEHS-see-oh]. The Latin noun sessiō can be used to refer to an act of sitting or to a seat.
Hebrews 10:13
waiting from that time onward UNTIL HIS ENEMIES BE MADE A FOOTSTOOL FOR HIS FEET.
Note: As with verse 12, this verse also references Psalm 110:1. Hebrews 10:13 and Psalm 110:1 refer to the Lord Jesus Christʼs victory in the angelic conflict. The angelic conflict is the conflict between the Trinity and the elect angels on one side and Satan and the fallen angels on the other side. This conflict has been raging for a long time, and it began sometime before the creation of mankind. How long the angelic conflict has been raging is unspecified in the Bible. Also, the specific means by which the struggle of the angelic conflict is waged is unspecified in the Bible. Whatever is the specific nature of that struggle, human beings were evidently created to resolve the angelic conflict. In that regard, it appears that at least one aspect of the angelic conflict involves argumentation and attempts at persuasion, such as in a court case. For example, when, in the Garden of Eden, the first woman was tricked by the serpent—whether the references to a serpent in Genesis 3 are metaphorical references to Satan appearing in a form other than that of a serpent or of something like a serpent or whether the references to a serpent in Genesis 3 are literal references to Satan appearing in the form of a serpent or of something like a serpent or whether the references to a serpent in Genesis 3 are literal references to Satan controlling a literal serpent—Satan persuaded the first woman to eat the forbidden fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Later, Satan caused Job to experience suffering. Later still, Satan tried to persuade the Lord Jesus Christ to sin. The Biblical accounts of those occasions indicate that Satan was arguing and trying to persuade.
Hebrews 10:14
Indeed, by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.
Note: As with the content of Hebrews 10:10, the content of Hebrews 10:14 refers to positional sanctification. In that regard, the reference to perfecting in this verse refers to the Lord Jesus Christʼs sacrifice of Himself on the cross making each believer in the Lord Jesus Christ perfectly acceptable to God the Father regarding having a relationship with God the Father.
Hebrews 10:15
Moreover, the Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying,
Hebrews 10:16
“‘THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THEM AFTER THOSE DAYS,’ SAYS THE LORD: “I WILL PUT MY LAWS UPON THEIR HEART, AND ON THEIR MIND I WILL WRITE THEM,’” He then says,
Note: This is a reference to Jeremiah 31:33.
Hebrews 10:17
“AND THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE.”
Note: This is a reference to Jeremiah 31:34.
Hebrews 10:18
Now where there is forgiveness of these things, there is no longer any offering for sin.
Hebrews 10:19
Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the Holy Places by the blood of Jesus,
Note: The phrase the blood of Jesus is a metaphor referencing the Lord Jesus Christʼs judgment on the cross for the sins of humanity. The reason that a metaphor involving blood is used to refer to the Lord Jesus Christ being judged on the cross is because of the sacrifice of certain types of animals before the Mosaic Law was given to the Israelites and also during the time period when the Israelites were under the Mosaic Law. When animals were sacrificed, there was blood involved, and that blood is a teaching illustration that metaphorically represents Jesus being judged for the sins of humanity. Now that Jesus has been judged on the cross for the sins of humanity, the Mosaic Law has been fulfilled, and the requirement of sacrificing animals has ended.
The phrase enter the Holy Places by the blood of Jesus refers to believers in the Church Age functioning as royal believer-priests without a need for a special priesthood to represent them before the Trinity. The phrase the Holy Places is a metaphor referencing the interior of the Tabernacle and then later the First Temple after the First Temple replaced the Tabernacle and then later the Second Temple after the Second Temple replaced the First Temple. The Tabernacle was a tent structure, one third of which was behind a veil near the back of the Tabernacle. The section of the Tabernacle outside the veil is known as the Holy Place. The section of the Tabernacle behind the veil is known as the Holy of Holies, the Most Holy Place, or the Holy Place inside the veil. In the Holy of Holies was the Ark of the Covenant (also known as the Ark of the Testimony). The First Temple and the Second Temple each had a similar structure with the veil separating the Holy Place from the Holy of Holies / Most Holy Place / Holy Place inside the veil.
The below link shows the cross-shaped layout of the items in the Tabernacle and in the associated courtyard with the eastward direction pointing downward. The opening of the courtyard and the opening of the Tabernacle both faced eastward, which is the direction where the sun rises. With the eastward direction pointing downward, the cross-like layout can be seen from the perspective of an upright cross.

Only the high priest of Israel could enter the Holy of Holies, and he could only do so on one day per year: the Day of Atonement. Because the Israelites lived a nomadic lifestyle at times, the Tabernacle and the contents thereof needed to be moved. It is unspecified in the Bible how the Tabernacle was disassembled. When it was disassembled, the Ark of the Covenant would be visible to the Israelites and any other onlookers. Also, the Ark of the Covenant was carried into battle by the Israelites. The Ark of the Covenant would be visible to the Israelites and any other onlookers on such occasions also.
When the Tabernacle was assembled, if anyone other than the high priest of Israel entered the Holy of Holies, that person would die. Likewise, if the high priest entered the Holy of Holies on any day other than the Day of Atonement, he would die. In addition, when the high priest of Israel entered the Holy of Holies on the Day of Atonement, he had to follow specific procedures; otherwise, he would die. Leviticus 16 covers the matter of the high priest and entering the Holy of Holies on the Day of Atonement. In that regard, Mosesʼs brother Aaron was the first high priest of Israel. Also, in Leviticus 16, the Holy of Holies is referred to as the Holy Place inside the veil.
King Solomon, the third king of Israel, had had the First Temple built. That Temple can also be called Solomonʼs Temple. Many years later, in 586 B.C., the First Temple was destroyed by the soldiers of Nebuchadnezzar, the ruler of Babylon. Later, the Second Temple was built. It was eventually larger than the First Temple. The Second Temple existed during the time of the First Advent of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Second Temple can also be called Herodʼs Temple because King Herod, the ruler of Judea under the authority of the Romans, had construction work done in order to expand the Second Temple.
The content of Hebrews 10:19 is repeated below for reference.
Hebrews 10:19
Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the Holy Places by the blood of Jesus,
Hebrews 10:20
by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh,
Note: In this verse, the Lord Jesus Christʼs human body is metaphorically compared to the veil that separated the location of the Ark of the Covenant from the rest of the Tabernacle and then later from the rest of the First Temple after the First Temple replaced the Tabernacle and then later from the rest of the Second Temple after the Second Temple replaced the First Temple. Because the veil was like a door that led to the location of the Ark of the Covenant, the content of this verse calls attention to the fact that the Lord Jesus Christ is the means by which a person can gain entrance to eternal life.
Hebrews 10:21
and having a great Priest over the house of God,
Note: The Lord Jesus Christ is the great Priest. The phrase the house of God refers to Church Age believers.
Hebrews 10:22
let us draw near with a sincere [literally: true] heart in full assurance of faith/doctrine, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
Note: The heart refers to the mind. This verse metaphorically refers to confessing/acknowledging to God the Father all of oneʼs known unconfessed post-salvation sins. In that regard, some of the regulations of the Mosaic Law involved the washing of the body with water. Regarding confessing/acknowledging to God the Father all of oneʼs known unconfessed post-salvation sins, once a believer commits a sin after salvation, that believer is no longer filled with the power of God the Holy Spirit and is out of fellowship with the Trinity.
Hebrews 10:23
Let us hold fast the confession/acknowledgment of our hope / absolute confidence without wavering, for He Who promised is faithful.
Hebrews 10:24
Also, let us consider how to stimulate one another to benevolence/goodwill and good deeds,
Hebrews 10:25
not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
Note: Hebrews 10:24 and Hebrews 10:25 are part of the same sentence. In those verses, there is zero reference to a building called a church. In the early days of Christianity, believers in the Lord Jesus Christ met together in peopleʼs homes. In those days, in order to learn the Word of God, believers in the Lord Jesus Christ would gather to hear the Word of God read to them. Also, these verses call attention to the fact that believers who regularly obey the Word of God can be sources of encouragement to one another.
The phrase as you see the day drawing near is a reference to alertness to the fact that each day brings believers closer to the Rapture. In that regard, it is important for believers to be alert for the possibility that the Rapture could occur during their lifetimes and to therefore endeavor to be in fellowship with the Trinity as much as possible. Once a believer commits a sin after salvation, that believer is no longer filled with the power of God the Holy Spirit and is out of fellowship with the Trinity.
Regarding being alert, levels of alertness can be categorized in terms of a mindset color code that involves four colors. The mindset color code describes states of awareness. The mindset color code can be utilized for matters outside oneself; for example, the color code can be applied to both physical dangers and also to the dangers of stumbling blocks that can lead a Christian to sin. Also, the color code can be utilized introspectively with regard to the temptations that can originate from oneʼs old sin nature (OSN). The old sin nature, which is referenced in Ephesians 4:22 with the term old man, can also be referred to as the sin nature. It is also referenced using the word flesh in Ephesians 2:3 and Galatians 5:16. The content of Romans 6:6 associates the sin nature with peopleʼs bodies, and the content of Romans 7:17–18 references the sin nature being in peopleʼs bodies. Adam and Ishshah [ish-SHAW] (the name of Eve before Adam renamed her Eve) were created without old sin natures, and they acquired old sin natures when they sinned. All other human beings have been conceived. Only the Lord Jesus Christ was conceived without an old sin nature. All the other humans that were conceived have been conceived with old sin natures. Likewise, all humans in the future will be conceived, and the conceiving of each of them will involve each of them receiving an old sin nature at the moment that each of them will be conceived. With regard to being alert, below are the conditions of alertness of the mindset color code and descriptions of them.
|
Condition White: |
Unaware and unprepared, one is totally oblivious to what is going on. |
|
|
|
|
Condition Yellow: |
Relaxed alert—no specific threat is detected, but one is “taking in” surrounding info—the mindset in which one is aware that one might have to deal with danger today. |
|
|
|
|
Condition Orange: |
Specific alert—something is not quite right and has oneʼs attention. It might be something having to be dealt with right now. One gets mentally prepared to act, just in case. |
|
|
|
|
Condition Red: |
The potential danger of Condition Orange is determined to be a real danger. It is definitely something having to be dealt with right now. One acts immediately. |
Hebrews 10:26
Indeed, we, willfully sinning after receiving the epignōsis knowledge of the truth—no longer for sins does there remain a sacrifice
Note: The phrase epignōsis knowledge found in the above translation of Hebrews 10:26 is a translation of the Koine [KOI-nay] Greek noun ἐπίγνωσιν [pronounced eh-PEE-know-seen and transliterated into English as epignōsin]. That noun is an inflected form of the root word ἐπίγνωσις [pronounced eh-PEE-know-sees and transliterated as epignōsis (some people leave the macron off the o and transliterate the word as epignosis)]. In the New American Standard Bible 1995 (NASB 1995) and New American Standard Bible 2020 (NASB 2020) translations of various verses, the word epignōsis is translated as “knowledge,” “real knowledge,” and “true knowledge.” Sometimes, the NASB 1995 and NASB 2020 translations also have footnotes indicating that epignōsis can be translated as “recognition.” When precisely translated, rather than simply referring to knowledge, the word epignōsis refers to that which is above or beyond ordinary knowledge. The Koine Greek word for ordinary knowledge is γνῶσις [pronounced KNOW-sees and transliterated as gnōsis or gnosis]. In the Bible, epignōsis is used to refer to knowledge of the Word of God.
Absent from the content of this verse is the Koine Greek word εἰ [pronounced AY and transliterated as ei], which is the Koine Greek word that can be translated “if”; therefore, absent from this verse is a conditional clause. In other words, absent from this verse is any part of the verse being conditionally dependent upon any other part of this verse. In that regard, the above translation of Hebrews 10:26 involves the absence of the word if. Also, the structure of this verse is such that an em dash has been used in the above translation. The including of that em dash helps make clear that there is an absence of a conditional clause. Instead of there being a conditional clause in this verse, there is the phrase Indeed, we, willfully sinning after receiving the epignōsis knowledge of the truth and the independent clause no longer for sins does there remain a sacrifice. In that regard, there are two separate thoughts expressed in this verse, and the em dash separates those two separate thoughts.
While there are two separate thoughts expressed in this verse, those two separate thoughts are related in that they are both sin-related topics. In that regard, the first part of this verse calls attention to the fact that believers sin after learning the Word of God. Also, the first part of this verse calls attention to the fact that sinning involves the volition (free will) of a believer.
The second part of this verse calls attention to the fact that the animal sacrifices that were done in accordance with the regulations of the Mosaic Law have been invalidated by the Lord Jesus Christʼs fulfilling of the Mosaic Law when He received the judgment for the sins of humanity. In that regard, participating in those sacrifices indicates a lack of belief that the Lord fulfilled the Mosaic Law. With regard to the foregoing, the author of The Epistle to the Hebrews indicated to the recipients of the epistle that believers in the Lord Jesus Christ need to refrain from participating in those sacrifices.
The content of Hebrews 10:26 is repeated below for reference.
Hebrews 10:26
Indeed, we, willfully sinning after receiving the epignōsis knowledge of the truth—no longer for sins does there remain a sacrifice
Hebrews 10:27
but a terrifying receiving of judgment and THE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES.
Note: This verse references Isaiah 26:11. Unbelievers who try to obtain eternal life by doing the animal sacrifices of the Mosaic Law will remain unbelievers; therefore, they will experience eternal judgment, and that judgment is terrifying. In this verse, the Koine Greek noun that is translated as “receiving” is ἐκδοχὴ [pronounced ehk-dah-KHAY and transliterated as ekdochē]. That noun is an inflected form of the root word ἐκδοχή [pronounced ehk-dah-KHAY and transliterated as ekdochē]. The noun ekdochē occurs only once in the Bible. While the noun ekdochē can also be translated as “expectation,” “waiting,” or “looking for,” those translations have a connotation of awareness, and unbelievers can be unaware that they will experience judgment. In that regard, translating ekdochē as “receiving” in this verse fits the context of this verse.
Because sinning is a violation of the will of God the Father, it is logical to conclude that the phrase THE ADVERSARIES in this verse refers to adversaries of God the Father. Enemies of God the Father are also enemies of believers who obey the Word of God. This epistle is addressed to believers. In that regard, the content of Hebrews 10:27 calls attention to the fact that believers participating in the animal sacrifices of the Mosaic Law after the Lord fulfilled the Mosaic Law involves being like the enemies of God the Father and therefore involves being like the people who will experience eternal judgment. Thus, the content of this verse is a wake-up call regarding refraining from participating in the animal sacrifices of the Mosaic Law.
Hebrews 10:28
Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
Hebrews 10:29
How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified and has insulted the Spirit of grace?
Note: The content of this verse refers to a believer trying to keep the Mosaic Law. In this verse, the phrase blood of the covenant is a metaphor referencing the Lord Jesus Christʼs judgment on the cross for the sins of humanity. As mentioned in the notes for verse 19, the reason that a metaphor involving blood is used to refer to the Lord Jesus Christ being judged on the cross is because of the sacrifice of certain types of animals before the Mosaic Law was given to the Israelites and also during the time period when the Israelites were under the Mosaic Law.
The trampling referenced in this verse is a metaphorical reference to having a contemptuous attitude towards the Lord Jesus Christʼs work of being judged on the cross for the sins of humanity. In that regard, a believer who tries to keep the Mosaic Law has such a contemptuous attitude. The word unclean in this verse is a metaphorical reference to some of the regulations of the Mosaic Law. Such uncleanness is referred to as ceremonial uncleanness. Ironically, a believer who tries to keep the Mosaic Law treats the Lord Jesus Christʼs work on the cross as unclean.
The phrase by which he was sanctified refers to the positional sanctification of the believer. As mentioned in the notes for verse 10, the term positional sanctification refers to God the Holy Spirit baptizing every Church Age believer in the Lord Jesus Christ into Jesus Christ, which means placing that Church Age believer into union with the Person of Jesus Christ.
The phrase has insulted the Spirit of grace indicates that a believer trying to keep the Mosaic Law insults God the Holy Spirit. The word grace in that phrase calls attention to the fact that God the Holy Spirit is gracious. Therefore, in this verse, the insulting behavior of a believer trying to keep the Mosaic Law is contrasted with the graciousness of God the Holy Spirit.
A believerʼs attempt to keep the Mosaic Law is ironic. In that regard, when the Mosaic Law was in effect, violating the Mosaic Law resulted in negative consequences for the violator, and now that the Mosaic Law has been fulfilled, a believer trying to keep the Mosaic Law deserves consequences that are severer than the negative consequences experienced by a violator of the Mosaic Law. Regarding the foregoing, the content of this verse has a stark warning against believers trying to keep the Mosaic Law.
Hebrews 10:30
Indeed, we know Him Who said, “VENGEANCE IS MINE; I WILL REPAY,” and again, “THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE.”
Note: This verse references Deuteronomy 32:35–36. Below is content from those verses.
Deuteronomy 32:35
‘Vengeance is Mine—and retribution. In due time, their foot slips, for the day of their calamity is near, and the impending things have hastened upon them.’
Note: This verse refers to what happens to enemies of Israel. In that regard, the use of a present tense in the phrase their foot slips in this verse is a reference to what will occur in the future. Such a use of a present tense has a rhetorical effect. In that regard, using a verb in a present tense to refer to the future can help a reader or hearer of the Word of God imagine future events as though the reader or hearer is watching those events as they occur.
The use of the perfect tense in the phrase have hastened upon in this verse is a reference to the future. Such a use of the perfect tense has a rhetorical effect. In that regard, why would verbs in the perfect tense be used to refer to what will happen in the future? Doing so in reference to something being indicated can communicate that what will occur in the future is 100% certain to happen and that because it is 100% certain to happen, it is as though it has happened already.
Deuteronomy 32:36
“Certainly, Jehovah / Yahweh / I am I am / the existing One judges His people and has compassion on His servants, for He sees that strength/power has gone and that there is none, closed up / detained / restrained or free.”
Note: Rather than the enemies of Israel having the right to judge the Israelites, God the Father has the right to judge the Israelites. In addition to judging the Israelites, God the Father has compassion on the Israelites. Regarding that compassion, this verse references God the Father helping the helpless Israelites. In that regard, the strength/power that has gone refers to the strength/power of the Israelites. This applies to both Israelites who are captured and Israelites who are free.
The content of Hebrews 10:30 is repeated below for reference.
Hebrews 10:30
Indeed, we know Him Who said, “VENGEANCE IS MINE; I WILL REPAY,” and again, “THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE.”
Hebrews 10:31
It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Note: The reference to hands in this verse is an anthropomorphism [an-thruh-puh-MOR-fiz-uhm]. An anthropomorphism is a usage of terminology involving a physical characteristic to describe a characteristic of the Trinity. The anthropomorphism involving hands in this verse is a metaphor that calls attention to the power and wrath of God the Father.
Hebrews 10:32
However, remember the former days, in which, after being enlightened, you endured a great conflict of sufferings,
Hebrews 10:33
partly by being made a public spectacle through reproaches and tribulations, and partly by becoming sharers with those who were so treated.
Hebrews 10:34
Indeed, you showed sympathy to the prisoners and accepted joyfully the seizure of your property, knowing that you have for yourselves a better possession and a lasting one.
Note: The phrase a better possession and a lasting one refers to blessing in eternity future.
Hebrews 10:35
Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great recompense of reward.
Note: The confidence that a believer in the Lord Lord Jesus Christ has should be confidence that the Trinity will take care of everything for the believer. A believerʼs throwing away of his or her confidence in the Trinity is tantamount to ceasing to trust in the Trinity regarding the challenges that the believer encounters in life. When a believer stops trusting in the Trinity, the believer is committing a mental-attitude sin.
Regarding mental-attitude sins, sins can be categorized in various ways. There are three broad categories of sins: mental-attitude sins, verbal sins, and overt sins. Verbal sins can also be referred to as sins of the tongue. They can also be referred to as communicative sins because that category also encompasses non-verbal communication that involves sinning. Communicative sins can also involve physical means of communication such as facial expressions, other forms of body language, tone of voice, and demeanor.
Once a believer commits a sin after salvation, that believer is no longer filled with the power of God the Holy Spirit and is out of fellowship with the Trinity.
In this verse, the phrase great recompense of reward refers to a believer receiving eternal rewards. The receipt of those rewards is described in terms of being paid for what one does. In the context of this verse, what the believer does is have confidence in the Trinity. In contrast, a believer who lacks confidence in the Trinity misses out on the receipt of some eternal rewards. In that regard, a believer out of fellowship with the Trinity is missing out on some eternal rewards for every moment that he or she is out of fellowship.
Hebrews 10:36
Indeed, you have need of endurance so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise.
Note: In this verse, the phrase the promise refers to what is promised rather than to an act of promising. In that regard, the phrase the promise refers to the inheritance of eternal rewards in the future. The content of verse 35 provides the context for that usage of the phrase the promise.
Hebrews 10:37
INDEED, YET IN A VERY LITTLE WHILE, HE WHO IS COMING WILL COME AND WILL NOT DELAY.
Note: Hebrews 10:37a references Isaiah 26:20, and Hebrews 10:37b references Habakkuk 2:3. The context provided by the content of Hebrews 10:35–36 is such that the content of Hebrews 10:37 refers to the Rapture. Also, while the timespan from the time in which Hebrews 10 was written to the Rapture might seem like a long period of time, that timespan is actually a very short period of time when compared to eternity.
Hebrews 10:38
NOW MY RIGHTEOUS ONE SHALL LIVE BY DOCTRINE, AND IF HE SHRINKS BACK, MY SOUL HAS NO PLEASURE IN HIM.
Note: The content of Hebrews 10:38 references the content of Habakkuk 2:4. The phrase MY RIGHTEOUS ONE in Hebrews 10:38 refers to a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. In that regard, the righteousness of the Trinity can be referred to as +R. The righteousness of mankind falls short of the righteousness of the Trinity; therefore, the righteousness of mankind can be referred to as −R. Isaiah 64:6 covers the matter of the −R being contrasted with the +R of the Trinity. In that regard, below is content related to Isaiah 64:6.
Isaiah 64:6
However, all of us are like an unclean thing, and all our righteous deeds are like filthy rags / menstrual rags. All of us wither like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.
Note: The Hebrew word translated as “filthy” or “menstrual” in Isaiah 64:6 is עִדִּים [pronounced eed-DEEM and can be transliterated as `iddiym], which is an inflected form of the root word עִדָּה [pronounced eed-DAH and can be transliterated as `iddah]. (Hebrew is written and read from right to left.) The Hebrew word `iddah refers to something filthy in the sense of being soiled by menstrual flux—in other words, soiled by menses, which is blood and other matter that is discharged from the uterus of a woman during menstruation. The Hebrew word translated as “rags” in Isaiah 64:6 is בֶגֶד [pronounced VEHG-ed and can be transliterated as veged], which is an inflected form of the root word בֶּגֶד [pronounced BEHG-ed and can be transliterated as beged]. Regarding the content of Isaiah 64:6 containing the phrase `iddiym veged, the content of that verse indicates that in comparison to the righteousness of the Trinity, the righteousness of mankind is yuck, yuck, yuck!
At the moment a person believes in the Lord Jesus Christ as the Savior, +R is imputed to that person. In other words, that person is credited as having righteousness, which means that that person is declared sufficiently righteous to have an eternal relationship with the Trinity. This crediting of righteousness is a free gift that occurs at the moment a person believes in the Lord Jesus Christ as the Savior.
The Koine [KOI-nay] Greek word that is translated as “doctrine” in this verse is πίστεως [pronounced PEES-teh-ohs and transliterated as pisteōs]. That word is an inflected form of the root word πίστις [pronounced PEE-stees and transliterated as pistis]. Depending on the context, the word pistis can be translated as either “doctrine” or “faith.” Doctrine is that in which one believes. Faith is oneʼs action of believing in something. In the context of this verse, the word pistis refers to Bible doctrine—in other words, the Word of God.
The phrase IF HE SHRINKS BACK in Hebrews 10:38 refers to apostasy. In that regard, when a believer sins, if that believer refrains from confessing/acknowledging that sin to God the Father, then that believer will remain out of fellowship with the Trinity. In that regard, a believer who remains out of fellowship eventually becomes a reversionist. Such a believer reverts back to acting like unbelievers. Being a reversionistic believer is known as being involved in reversionism.
Hebrews 10:39
However, we are not of shrinking back to destruction but of doctrine to the preserving of the soul.
Note: Ultimately, if a believer continues to refrain from confessing/acknowledging to God the Father all of that believerʼs known unconfessed post-salvation sins, that believer will experience the sin unto death. The sin unto death involves an early physical death. For a believer who physically dies after the Day of Pentecost [PEN-tih-kahst], that early physical death involves an early departure to Heaven. The departure to Heaven of a believer who experiences the sin unto death is an early departure in the sense that it occurs at an earlier time than it would have occurred if the believer had regularly remained in fellowship with the Trinity. The topic of the sin unto death is covered in 1 John 5:16. Rather than the content of 1 John 5:16 referring to some particular sin that is categorized as the sin unto death, the content of 1 John 5:16 refers to sinning in general that results in a believerʼs physical death occurring earlier than it would have had that believer regularly remained in fellowship with the Trinity.
Sincerely,
John
